This is more of an exclamation than an article, but I just have to share. Here's a little backstory: I have been listening to Taylor Swift for quite literally my entire life. I was bathed as a baby to her debut album, and somehow swear I remember the day Fearless came out. I've known every word since I could speak- but while I can sing along to every word, I have always had a problem with really listening to the lyrics. I still couldn't tell you what "New Slang" is about. I blame this on my father for training me from a young age to listen to each instrument (especially the B3). We would listen to a song and he'd tell me to focus on the guitar, and once it was over, we'd start it over again and focus on the bass, then the drums, etc. But we never listened to the lyrics! I never had a problem with that, until earlier this fall I was trying to think of songs that were 'so me' because I could relate so hard to them. I realized that I couldn't think of a single song I literally related to. So since coming to college, I will often read along with the lyrics while I listen to songs. I've even been frequenting genius.com to see if there are any explanations for lines too complex for me - I'm still new to this. Now here comes the good news - I've just come out of a gut wrenching situationship and discovered today that I now relate to SO many Taylor Swift songs!!!! And the best part? I relate to my favorite Taylor song ever, Treacherous!!! I know it sounds like I'm being sarcastic but I genuinely am so excited to finally have songs that I can scream along with and FEEL THE PAIN. Also I really am okay with the whole situation too, it ended the best it could've. The best of both worlds!
